Light Sussex Large Fowl

I started keeping Light Sussex 4 or 5 years ago and although I don’t exhibit them I try to maintain the best example of the breed possible.

The Light Sussex is a Traditional Breed that is very active and love free ranging. I breed about 100 Light Sussex a year and often have birds and eggs available. Always high fertility, these birds are great for first time hatcher as they breed and hatch a lot easier than any Oprington.

The best thing about Light Sussex is how they look - they have a striking black neck hackle and always complement your country garden, they look best in flocks of between 6 and 10. Light Sussex lay around 200-220 big eggs a year so are a great bird for laying and look a lot better then these commercial hybrids you can buy. They live up to 10 years unlike hybrids that live to around 3 or 4 years old.

I hope this has given you more of an insight into the Light Sussex.
